Our Front Porch, Roses and Birds

Miniature roses in bloom... so sweet!

Welcome dear friends! We have been enjoying such nice weather at our Rose Cottage. During the week my sweet son and I have enjoyed eating our lunch and reading on the front porch. On the weekends we are so happy to have my dear husband join us.

As I have been spending more time on the front porch I realized how little I have decorated it, so working with things I had on hand, I put a vignette together to make it more cheerful and inviting.

My sweet and thoughtful husband brought home a few impatiens, perfect for our mostly shaded porch, organic potting mix, and a new container to plant some of them in, to set atop the old tricycle seat. It is already more cheerful, don't you think?

A "Rose Cottage" sign, peg rack, old creamer, and metal pocket with silk roses fills in this area nicely.

My husband made and painted the table. I added an old linen found on our trip to Jefferson, Texas, a sweet bird, an old metal basket and more of those lovely impatiens that my dear husband brought home for me.

I love pink, it is so cheerful, and it makes me smile. Do you have a favorite color that makes you smile?

We were so excited to find one of the Gertrude Jekyll roses in bloom. It smells incredible! The Queen of Sweden and Harlow Carr look as if they will be blooming soon, too!

I love roses! We have not only been blessed by roses in bloom, but beautiful songbirds at our feeders. We see many on a daily basis, but these are rare visitors and we are thankful the Lord sent them our way. His creation is amazing! He is amazing!

My sweet son recognized both these birds and declared, "Mom there are Indigo Bunting's at the feeder, come look," and the next day, "Mom, there is a Rose-breasted Grosbeak at the feeder, come look." Thankfully he was able to bring me the camera so I could take a few photos of these sweet birds through the window.

We love nature study and nature journaling. I am so thankful for Karen Andreola, and her wonderful and encouraging book, A Charlotte Mason Companion that introduced us to the joys of bird watching, and encouraged us to begin keeping nature journals many years ago.

Lovely Indigo Bunting's!

Beautiful Rose-breasted Grosbeak!

Thank you for visiting me to see what we have been doing at our cottage this week. I am hoping that each of you are enjoying lovely weather, and seeing things in God's creation that bring joy to your heart! Take time to sit outside, and maybe enjoy lunch on your front porch or in your garden. It is amazing how much better you feel when you have spent time outside. Even with all our windows open, making our cottage so fresh, it is nothing compared to being outdoors among the blooming flowers, and singing birds.

Thank you so much for all of the sweet and thoughtful comments that each of you leave for me. I am so very blessed by your kind words!

Have the loveliest of weekends and be sure to spend some time outside if the weather is nice, you will be so happy you did, and sweet memories are certain to be made!

More than half a century has passed, and yet each spring, when I wander into the primrose wood and see the pale yellow blooms, and smell their sweetest of scents, ... for a moment I am seven years old again and wandering in the fragrant wood. ~ Gertrude Jekyll

Oh Paula, your porch is so charming and inviting, I can see why you sit out there all the time. Enjoy it for me xoxox

Your roses are just beautiful. I agree roses are my favorite flower. I wish I had more sun and could have piles of them. Lots of arbores with climbing roses.

You are sooo blessed to live somewhere with so much nature and birds. Chloe would have soo much fun bird watching in your yard.

I agree thanks to CM and Karen I have really come to realize how nature and study of the world God created is soo important to us. To make us stop and appreciate. xoxoxox Clarice

My Dear Paula,

I do believe we are kindred hearts! I adore pink roses and birds! Nothing lifts my spirits and refreshes my soul more than these. One of my favorite roses is Gertrude Jekyll--I just swoon over the fragrance!

I so enjoyed the luncheon with you on your lovely porch. It is so inviting with the wire basket with impatience, wall pocket with flowers, the lovely rose wreath and all of your other special touches to make me feel so welcomed at your Rose Cottage! Everything is so sweet at your home, and you have created such a special home for your family.

Spring is just arriving in the north: the song birds are returning and spring flowers are joyfully blooming! I hope you are enjoying your joyful spring, too!

My warmest and best regards to you, dear friend!

Love,
Debbykay

Dear Paula,

Thank you, sweet friend, for sharing your porch, flowers and birds with us! I'm so glad you have a beautiful porch to be out in nature. It is so healing, isn't it?

The Gertrude Jekyll rose looks so pretty, and according to my David Austen, I could even grow it here!

Love,

Marqueta

Paula,

Your porch is beautiful! What a lovely place to take tea and watch the birds. Since we are in the desert we do not have a huge variety of birds, but we do have the loveliest hummingbirds that frequent our feeders.

Your garden is so beautiful. I love the Gertrude Jekyll rose.

Love, Heather

Your home is so charming. I think of how we can make our homes more inviting, more beautiful, more welcoming and we can when our foundation is in Him. He truly makes a difference and you and your family reflect Him.

Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day :)

The porch is charming to say the least! And indigo buntings, lucky you, we can't get those up where we are. They are the prettiest blue, are they not?
