Happy day sweet friends! We have been enjoying fine weather this week. It has been wonderful to be able to keep the windows open allowing our cottage a nice airing out. The days have been warm with cool breezes and no humidity, and the nights have been chilly. The sun is shining brightly and the birds are singing! No doubt they are as delighted with this weather as we are. As you can see Pearl has been able to wear her new bee shirt while the weather has been nice. She loves to play with bumblebees, so when I came across this shirt I had to get it for her. Let's see what is in the garden, shall we?

My dear husband took the wonderful photos of this Ruby-throated Hummingbird, the bee on the lambs ear, the foxglove and sweetpeas. Thank you husband!

This is my favorite photo. She looks so inquisitive! I love to see God's beautiful creation up close. It is a joy to watch these little jewels, especially when they are feeding at blossoms. What a wonderful and loving Father we have to bless us with so many beautiful things to enjoy!

This lovely foxglove is a new addition to our garden, and a most welcome one I might add! The day after my husband planted it for me, I was sitting right beside it, enjoying my lunch in the sun, my son was enjoying his lunch on the porch. I heard a bee buzzing, and I was able to see it go all the way up into the bloom, it was wonderful! Pearl thought is was wonderful, too, so she stuck her sweet nose in one of the blooms!

Foxglove and sweet william, my sweet son's favorite flower!

Sweetpeas and coneflower.

We planted our sweetpeas a bit late. Here in the south the need to be planted in early November. I am so thankful they bloomed before it gets too hot. They smell wonderful!

This is Pearl's favorite photo! A bee enjoying the lambs ear.

Our hydrangeas are blooming! They are so beautiful! I would love to dry the flowers. Do any of you have tips on how and when to dry them?

Such a beautiful color!

I love to be in my garden. I feel such peace when I am there. It is so quiet and peaceful, except for the birds, hummingbirds and bees making their sweet soothing sounds. It is a wonderful time for me to talk to the Lord and share my struggles and fears with Him, and thank Him for the many blessings He bestows upon me. I think of the song, What a friend we have in Jesus. This beautiful song ministers to my heart so very much, and as you read or sing the lyrics, I pray it will minister to your heart too, and that you would know what a friend we have in Jesus.
What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.
Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised
Thou wilt all our burdens bear;
May we ever, Lord, be bringing
All to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright, unclouded,
There will be no need for prayer—
Rapture, praise, and endless worship
Will be our sweet portion there.
~ Joseph M. Scriven 1855
Another beautiful place I enjoying being is on the lake we live by. Right behind our garden is the bayou. We just hop in our Jon (I like to call it Johnny) boat and head out to the lake, but before we do that, we will go to the end of the bayou.

It is so peaceful and beautiful! We hope to have a canoe someday to paddle around in. I love how the trees arch over the water.
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
~ Joyce Kilmer 1886-1918

Pearl loves the Johnny boat, too!

If this tree had not fallen in the bayou you could go down a bit further, so we must turn around and head out to the beautiful lake.....

....dotted with Bald Cypress trees covered in Spanish Moss.
I hope you enjoyed your visit in my garden and on the lake. I am so glad you stopped by! I pray each of you will enjoy the rest of your week, full of blessings and God's love.

Such wonderful flower pictures! Our lilacs came out the other day and smell so divine. I am in LOVE with your bayou. That first picture of the bayou is so relaxing and wonderful. It makes me very happy to look at it. Can I go boating with you?!
What a beautiful post full of inspiration! Your photos are wonderful and I feel uplifted sharing the morning with you!
I love Spanish Moss! I enjoyed your pictures from your garden, the bayou and lake. Beautiful!
How many beautiful flowers you have in your garden! And a honeybird! That's exotic for a Norwegian!!! You are lucky who have a lake next to your garden, my Mother and Father in law has so, and it's so relaxing to be in a boat on the lake, it brings peace to my soul...
The song "What a friend we have in Jesus" is translated to Norwegian also!
I wish you a nice weekend =) We are going for a short holiday to Sweden.
What an amazing place to live Paula, so different from our home here in England. We do have the same flowers as you. The foxgloves grow wild here and seed themselves around the garden with gay abandon. When my daughter was little she used to think the blooms had fairies inside that had spilt their cups of tea and left the tea leaves for us to clear up!
We have blue hydrangeas because the soil here is acid. I find the best way to dry them is to wait until later in the season when they have gone quite papery and are beginning the fade. Then I cut them and bring them indoors and put them in a vase of water and forget about them. When the water has eveporated (after about 4 weeks) many of the flowers should be dry enough to keep. If they have shrivelled then they were picked too young. Its a bit of a hit and miss method but is works for me. Hope you have some luck with it too.
Dearest Paula~
We are such kindred spirits! I just love all the birds and flowers and being out in the garden. We live on the water also. Ours is a bay off of a finger of Puget Sound. We often go out in our canoe in the summer time to scan the shore for wildlife and see what the tide has brought in. Sometimes seals follow is and we see their heads bob up and down under the water if they think we are watching them too closely.
Your bayou is so serene! Yes, what a wonderful place our Heavenly Father has given us to enjoy as we await His return.
Have a blessed week enjoying all that He has given us, dear friend.
Blessings!
Dear Paula,
Your garden is so lovely. I have never dried hydrangeas before, although in August and September around here I notice them drying naturally on the bushes. Did you know most of the spanish moss around here blew away during hurricane Katrina !
Hope you are having a wonderful week !
Your hubby took some beautiful photos of those hummingbirds !!
Love and hugs))
Dear Paula,
I so look forward to your posts:) What beautiful flowers in your garden, I love the foxglove and Hydrangeas.
The hummingbirds are just precious and I am getting my feeders out this week for ours. They just started coming about.
Your honey's photos are beautiful too!
The bayou is so pretty and calming. I would love to visit sometime.
Thank you for posting "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". I really needed to be reminded today :)
Have a blessed day and thanks for sharing :)

Dear Paula,
How beautiful everything looks! I would think that hydrangeas would dry upside down, but I've never tried.
Frankie thinks that Pearl is my mom's dog, Pippin. He got a smile on his face and said, "Pippi!" when he saw her pictures.
Does anyone know if the Spanish moss will grow back someday? I hope so; it's such a magical sight.
Enjoy your beautiful spring,
Love,
Marqueta

Dear Paula,
Thank you for coming by and entering my giveaway - best wishes on winning!
Have a blessed weekend!
My dear Paula,
What a lovely and inspiring post! How I love stopping by your Rose Cottage to see all that is blooming and growing, and to have your tell me what is on your mind.
The photos of the sweet little hummy are so amazing! These are such amazing little birds--I wish I had as much energy as they do! (I have just been diagnosed with Lyme Disease--I have NO energy right now...) Your husband took such fantastic photos of the hummy, especially the sweet little one where he says, "I am stopping by for a little refreshment--you give me drink when I was thirsty--thank you!" I think our mutual love and enjoyment of birds, roses and gardens makes us such kindred hearts even though we are separated by hundreds and hundreds of miles!
Your garden photos are gorgeous! The sweet peas are beautiful. What cultivar did you plant this year? I can just smell their lovely fragrance. It's not too hot for your sweet peas yet? Isn't the foxglove amazing--your bees will go dizzy with enjoying all the nectar and all your flowers will bloom so amazingly with all the pollination from the bees.
Thank you for sharing the photos of the bayou and the lake--how lovely. Looks like you might do a little fishing, too? How blessed you are to live on the water with access to the lake. I am sure your family enjoys spending time together feeling refreshed on the lake!
Your poems and hymns were such lovely reminders. Thank you for sharing them today! Hope you are having time to enjoy your gardens and family on this long weekend.
I am trying to spend some time out in the garden, too. Yesterday, I was out most of the day yesterday refreshing window boxes and garden beds. It is another lovely day at my Rose Cottage, and will be enjoying this day in the gardens again listening to the sweet wrens, Bob-the rooster, cardinals, grosbeaks, goldfinches, robins, and the flitty little chickadees!
It was so lovely to visit with you, dear friend, at Rose Cottage. As always, I am refreshed after my visit!
Love and kindest regards from your kindred heart,
Debbykay at Rose Cottage Gardens and Farm
My dear Paula,
I forgot to mention how I always dry hydrangas. All you need to do is to cut them when they are fully open and put them in a vase, pot or jar. Do not put them in water. They will dry naturally. The leaves will shrivel up and dry, so you will probably want to remove those when they are dry. You can also hang them upside down, but it is not necessary--why not enjoy them in the vase? They will dry perfectly fine this way.
When Rebekah, our daughter, was married last September we had green and also brown hydrangas everywhere. I think I might have some of the photos up on my Flickr account. (You can go to my Flickr account from the link from my blog.) I will check to be sure some of the photos of the hydrangas are there. If not, I will try to add them in the next few days. You will see how lovely they dry and how gorgeous they look in fall arrangements with other flowers.
Happy gardening!
Love and blessings,
Debbykay at Rose Cottage Gardens and Farm
I adore seeing photos of your garden. And your hummingbirds...I have a thing for hummingbirds. I wrote a post about my hummingbirds with photos back in late September...if you can go see...I am entranced by them. What would we do without the beauty of nature that God so graciously made for us? We are so blessed!
What a glorious bayou and lake!!!! Oh you must just adore it! And the hymnns and poems on this post were such a joy to read! I am so glad you are well! I have missed visting, my son is graduating from 8th grade homeschooling and we are busy with that, my 40th bday is the first week of June and I am realizing this is indeed a milestone!! Many blessings to you and your family!!!! I am going to go catch up on some of your other posts!
hugs~
Good morning Paula,
I will go through the photos and add some flower/hydranga photos from Rebekah's wedding to flickr this week. Will that work for you? I think I just have a photo or two of her bouquet that had some green hydranga with the orchids and roses. These photos may give you an idea how lovely dried hydrangas are. I have not dried the type of hydranga you have planted as they don't winter well in the north. But, I expect that will dry equally well. It will be interesting to see how the color dries!
Have a lovely day!
Love,
Debbykay at Rose Cottage Gardens and Farm

I've always thought it would be great fun to have a humming bird feeder :D Your flowers look beautiful.
I really enjoyed my visit with you -the photos are beautiful and the trip down the bayou was lovely.I love the china in the previous post as well.
Take care,
Carolyn
Oh yes I did enjoy my walk through your plentiful gardens and ride down your bayou to the lake. I miss being on lakes. As you know I grew up on my Dad's bass boat. But I married a non-fisherman/non-boat man...so no more rides on the lake. There is no place as peaceful as being on water or on the shore of water.
Dearest Paula,
Thank you for your gentle lovingkindess. Your prayers and words of encouragement and scripture verses mean so much. I so appreciate the sister in Christ that you are. You are an encourager not only to me but the body of Christ. Thank you for upholding me and my family in prayer.
The Lord has done a quick work in restoration between my daughter, husband, and I. He is so faithful. And the Lord was with my other daughter and I this morning.
I am truly grateful for your words today that strengthen me and prayers. The pouring rain has passed. Actually in the natural it is gently raining and I think I will go out in the garden and take pictures of my roses with raindrops on them. May the Lord's countenance shine upon you this week giving peace, Fairmaiden
