Welcome To My Parlor

Welcome sweet friends! I am so glad you stopped by my cottage today. I hope you all are doing well and having a lovely week. I have been wanting to add more whites and creams to our home. It is such a peaceful look. I have begun with the parlor and used things I had on hand. I made the little bird above and had the picture frame that I found years ago at at thrift shop. I used a satin ribbon to hang it from, and a flower to embellish the top. The sweet gold star is made by dear Madai.

I made a new vignette for the mantle. The old highchair is the one I shared a while back that was yellow. My dear husband painted it white for me, and I dressed my bear in a vintage girl's slip with a lace collar, and a lovely pendant made by dear Selia.

I love old things, and I love to have vignettes all through my home. Do you enjoy creating vignettes?

I covered a sofa pillow in this stripe fabric from my stash, but since I am wanting more creams and whites I redid it in a wonderful linen I also had in my stash. Do you see the lace and flower Madai had tied around the Tasha Tudor envelope? I used it to wrap around some of my old books! Thank you Madai for each sweet and thoughtful gift!

I made curtains for the library and dining room and trimmed them with lace. I will share photos of those rooms in future posts. I was so excited to find that I had exactly enough lace left over to trim this pillow! It fit perfectly without having to cut it. I was so thankful to the Lord. So many small blessings to be thankful for each day!

I embellished it with a ribbon and a vintage millinery flower.

Another vignette on the wall next to the kitchen. I like to see pretty old things mingled together. Vintage plates are wonderful to use and to decorate with.

We would love to get a cream colored slip cover for the sofa, but until then I plan on covering the pillows and making new curtains... cream linen trimmed with vintage lace and millinery flowers. I want my home to look romantic and restful. I am going to make a cover for the ottoman with gathers around the top dropping down to the floor. On the open space of wall I am keeping an eye out for a large hutch. If it is not already white or cream, dear husband will paint it for me to fill with books and other treasures.

I like to have shelves everywhere to display my vintage things. My sweet husband makes and paints them for me.

I added a few antique plates to the wall from other rooms.

And covered a pillow in a rose print fabric, that goes nicely with the Home Sweet Home pillow. I am going to cover the other two in a cream linen, and embellish with more lace. One can never have enough of lace!

I love these old baskets.

This tin pocket was in the sun porch and I brought it to the parlor, filled it with old lace I found at an estate sale years ago and a few vintage photos. I love vintage photos and often wonder about the people in them, what stories could be told!

I covered this chair with a dust ruffle I had not used in years! It has a lovely crochet lace trim and I am glad to see it put to a new use. I covered these pillows in fabric from my stash. It feels so good to be using all that pretty fabric!

Another favorite vignette on the dresser we found in Jefferson, Texas. We are still planning on painting it a creamy white. The vintage postcard is from dear Clarice. I made the poodle silhouette by painting a wood plaque, gluing on some old paper and then adding a poodle I drew and traced onto black card stock. I think it looks just like my sweet Pearl. The dried lavender and rose are from my garden.

Thank you so much for visiting me. I will share more photos as I complete my projects. Next time we will go into the sewing room. It has been freshened up, too, and my dear, sweet husband bought me a antique Singer Featherweight sewing machine. It is so cute and sews beautifully. I have been putting it to a lot of use lately and it is a little workhorse! Thank you dearest hubby!!! You are so good to me!!!

I hope you all have a wonderful end of the week and upcoming weekend! May the Lord richly bless you and may you each enjoy feathering your nests!

Have nothing in your homes that you do not know to be useful and believe to be beautiful.

Everything looks so serene in your lovely parlor! I have missed hearing from you, but I see you have been quite busy making your home so lovely.
All you little vignettes are so sweet but I especially love the one on your Jefferson dresser and just above it. What a terrific "antiques" sign! And all the plates and pottery and lace ~ so romantic! Oh and what an adorable "Home Sweet Home" pillow and wall pocket and gathering basket! All just perfect!
What a wonderful gift your dear hubby gave! He must go to antiques stores often! And you must have some great ones near you!
So glad you are enjoying your time making your home a delight for your family!
Blessings to you this week and until we see your sweet sewing room!

I too love the Home Sweet Hone pillow, and your honey is such a blessing making those shelves for you. I love the silhouette you made, that is something I hope to try again soon. Everything is beautiful :)

You are truly a keeper of the Home :)

Have a glorious day in the Lord!

Dearest Paula,

I have not been on the computer very much lately, but decided it was time to pay a few house calls to my dear friends.

How delighted I was to find your darling post this morning. Your parlor is so charming and most importantly, so inviting.

You know that I LOVE VIGNETTES, as they tell a little story and are so fun to create.

Yours so very kindredly,

Dear Paula,

I just noticed your last post, and was going to comment on it, but you beat me to it with another one! Both are just so beautiful and inspiring, Paula; your garden looks just as lovely as it did last year. I hope the tomatoes bear soon for you and you keep getting a good bean harvest. I've heard that you can peel and cook lettuce seed stalks like asparagus, but I've never tried it.

The parlor is looking so nice and homey with the new additions! What a lovely thing to have such generous friends. The world is a cozier place with their love, isn't it?

May the Lord watch over your family,

Love,

Marqueta

Happy day to you sweetest!
I'm in~love with what you have done to your beautiful parlor!
The lighter creams and beiges are really making a difference already... so soothing, although I have to say I enjoy the contrasts of your beautiful couch and chair, they are really pretty too! But that's the fun of throw & slip covers, you can change things up with the seasons or your mood.
Your vignettes are always so precious!

The frame you painted and embellished is perfect for your sweet little fabric birdie, cute, cute, cute! I also, adore your collection of baskets and lace and the way you bring it all together... the books tied up with the lace is so sweet!! I'm so happy you can use some of the little things :). I love the banner that Selia made for you, it looks so pretty there.

And you are so talented, I love, love the sweet silhouette of Pearl!! soo cute!! and I spied a sweet little pillow "Think Of Me" it's soooo pretty :)

I could go on and on about everything I love about you and your home! hehee :)

Thank you for sharing your decorating adventures and for the inspiration you share every time!
Lots of hugs and love to you dear friend! xoxoxo ~ your loving bosom friend ~ Madai

Goodness me Paula, what a truly beautiful home you have with such a peaceful atmosphere. You have so many wonderful things to admire...you could open your door and become an antique shop (I'd be one of your best customers). I love old things, everything has a story to tell (if only we could hear it). I will now return to your parlor for another look round. Have a lovely weekend, Eli
